kozha kozha kanne kannin thaye

Sharadha the eldest of the 8 children sat down with her usual lunch fair for the lot and sat down, meenu, guru, shyam, ambi, lalitha, gomathi, madhuram, all sat all around there was a large stone vessel filled with thayir sadam, curd rice and kodali, the green green mixture of green chillies and salt ground well and kept in a wooden plate ready to be served, with some vatha kozhambu [tamarind dhall done with no vegetable but sun dried vegetables] and some chutta papdam,[roasted papad] now this is a south Indian meal common in the villages.

Now meenu would ask akka what is for the story today, and all giggled and followed what is it akka please do tell, she thought for a moment and said ok today it is kozha kozha kanne and all oooooooooh and happy to hear it, so the round started and she started her story for them..

Once upon a time there were two flies

who were about to marry and the prohit asks the male fly what is your name?

The fly does not know his name, so the prohit says one has to tell his name only then can I mention it in manthra for you to get married so runs the bee in search of any one who can help him out here…

First he saw a calf standing so beautiful

so thought yes he may know my name, so went next to him and said kozha kozha kanne, yen per yenna [oh you beautiful chubby calf] do tell my name.

The calf after thinking for sometime says oh no! I do not know your name why don’t you ask my mother here..

So the fly with all enthusiasm ran to the mother and said kozha kozha kanne kannin thaaye yen peyar yenna[ oh the mother of the beautiful chubby calf do tell me my name]

The mother cow thought for a moment and said no I don’t think I know your name please ask the cowherd who is taking care of us may be he might know your name…

So the fly ran to the cowherd and said kozha kozha kanney kannin thaye thayai meikkum aayen yen per yenna[ oh the chubby calf and his mother and the cowherd who takes care of them do tell me my name,]

the cowherd is puzzled and says please ask my stick that takes care of these herds.

The fly again questions the stick

by kozha kozha kanne kannin thaye thayai meikkum ayen ayaan kai kole yen per yenna [oh the beautiful calf and his mother and the shepherd and who takes care of them the stick do tell me my name]

the stick thought for a moment and then said why don’t you ask the tree from where I came there she is….

So the fly flew to the tree and said kozha kozha kanne kannin thaye thayai meikkum ayen ayaan kai kole kolai valartha kodimarame yen per yenna [ oh the beautiful calf and his mother and the cowherd who takes care of them and the stick who minds them and oh the tree who brought the stick in to this world do tell me my name…

The tree thinks for a moment and is puzzled and says why don’t you ask the pelicans that sits above on my tree,

so again the bee flies high above and asks the stork, kozha kozha kanne kannin thaye thayai meikkum ayen ayaan kai kole kolai valartha kodimarame kodimarathil vaazhum kokke yen per yenna,[ oh the beautiful calf and his mother and the cowherd who takes care of them and the stick who minds them and oh the tree who brought the stick in to this world and now the stork that sits on the beautiful tree do tell me my name]

The pelican says I am in meditation looking the pond below do ask the pond it may be able to help you,

So the fly is desperate it is taking more time than he thought and the muhurtham will get over and he would remain a bachelor so in a desperate voice he asks the pond.. , kozha kozha kanne kannin thaye thayai meikkum ayen ayaan kai kole kolai valartha kodimarame kodimarathil vaazhum kokke, kokku neeraadum kolame yen per yenna??

[ oh the beautiful calf and his mother and the cowherd who takes care of them and the stick who minds them and oh the tree who brought the stick in to this world and the stork that lives above it that swims in your pond please do tell me my name..]

The pond says I am sorry but yes you can ask the fishes that are there in my pond they may help you I am sure,

so the bee goes to the fishes with the petition for his name to them, kozha kozha kanne kannin thaye thayai meikkum ayen ayaan kai kole kolai valartha kodimarame kodimarathil vaazhum kokke, kokku neeraadum kolame kulathil vaazhum meeney yen per yenna [??

[ oh the beautiful calf and his mother and the cowherd who takes care of them and the stick who minds them and oh the tree who brought the stick in to this world and the stork that lives above it that swims in your pond and the fishes that now live in the pond pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease tell me my name with folded arms he begs them ]and they in turn, think for sometime and say look I think we will not be able to tell you please ask the fisherman with his net about this query..

So the fly flies to the fisher man and begs him and says , kozha kozha kanne kannin thaye thayai meikkum ayen ayaan kai kole kolai valartha kodimarame kodimarathil vaazhum kokke, kokku neeraadum kolame kulathil vaazhum meeney meen pidikkikkum valayaa yen per yenna? [oh the beautiful calf and his mother and the cowherd who takes care of them and the stick who minds them and oh the tree who brought the stick in to this world and the stork that lives above it that swims in your pond and the fishes that now live in the pond and the fisherman who fishes them out please help me with my name] …

the fisher man is in doubt so says ask my pot that is there it may help you..

So the fly flies to the pot to ask about his name. kozha kozha kanne kannin thaye thayai meikkum ayen ayaan kai kole kolai valartha kodimarame kodimarathil vaazhum kokke, kokku neeraadum kolame kulathil vaazhum meeney meen pidikkikkum valayaa valayan kai chattiye yen per yenna

[ oh the beautiful calf and his mother and the cowherd who takes care of them and the stick who minds them and oh the tree who brought the stick in to this world and the stork that lives above it that swims in your pond and the fishes that now live in the pond and the fisherman who fishes and the pot that he uses please please help me with my name]

now it is the turn of the pot to wonder what could be his name and the desperate appeal in the fly's face says it all poor fellow decked in garland and tika he looks so handsome and desperate, but he draws blank and say please approach the potter who makes me he may help you..

There again the fly flies to the potter and says . kozha kozha kanne kannin thaye thayai meikkum ayen ayaan kai kole kolai valartha kodimarame kodimarathil vaazhum kokke, kokku neeraadum kolame kulathil vaazhum meeney meen pidikkikkum valayaa valayan kai chattiye chatti seyiyum kosava yen per yenna.

[oh the beautiful calf and his mother and the cowherd who takes care of them and the stick who minds them and oh the tree who brought the stick in to this world and the stork that lives above it that swims in your pond and the fishes that now live in the pond and the fisherman who fishes and the pot that he uses and the potter who makes the pot please help me with my name]..

The potter think for sometime and he also falls short so says please ask the clay sand that I use to make pot about this he is smart and will tell you..

So the poor fly exhausted but with vigour flies to the clay sand and asks him kozha kozha kanne kannin thaye thayai meikkum ayen ayaan kai kole kolai valartha kodimarame kodimarathil vaazhum kokke, kokku neeraadum kolame kulathil vaazhum meeney meen pidikkikkum valayaa valayan kai chattiye chatti seyiyum kosava kosavanedukkum manne yen per yenna..[oh the beautiful calf and his mother and the cowherd who takes care of them and the stick who minds them and oh the tree who brought the stick in to this world and the stork that lives above it that swims in your pond and the fishes that now live in the pond and the fisherman who fishes and the pot that he uses and the potter who makes it and the clay sand that he uses please please please help me with my name]..

The clay sand thinks for sometime and unable to help him suggests why don’t you ask the grass that grows on me and I am sure he will know. So the bee flies over to the grass and starts by saying.

kozha kozha kanne kannin thaye thayai meikkum ayen ayaan kai kole kolai valartha kodimarame kodimarathil vaazhum kokke, kokku neeraadum kolame kulathil vaazhum meeney meen pidikkikkum valayaa valayan kai chattiye chatti seyiyum kosava kosavanedukkum manne mannin melirukkum pulle yen per yenna??
oh the beautiful calf and his mother and cowherd who takes care of them and the stick who minds them and oh the tree who brought the stick in to this world and the stork that lives above it that swims in your pond and the fishes that now live in the pond and the fisherman who fishes and the pot that he uses and the potter who makes it and the clay sand that he uses and now the green grass that grow on the clay sand kindly help me with my name]

the grass feels very sorry for the fly but is helpless so says please ask the horse that is eating me I am very sure he will know

…so saying bye to him the fly flies to the horse that is grazing the grass…and says.

kozha kozha kanne kannin thaye thayai meikkum ayen ayaan kai kole kolai valartha kodimarame kodimarathil vaazhum kokke, kokku neeraadum kolame kulathil vaazhum meeney meen pidikkikkum valayaa valayan kai chattiye chatti seyiyum kosava kosavanedukkum manne mannin melirukkum pulle pullai thinnum kudiraiye yen per yenna…[??
