The Winter Food Festival at Khandani Rajdhani

It is for the first time, Khandani Rajdhani have come up with a Winter Food Festival - Swad Kesariya.

The time of winter one wants to have hot or at least warm food that is not only literally warm but also that warms the organs of our body. And Khandhani Rajdhani has come up with such foods that will warm the heart, tickles the taste buds and gives a tranquil feeling.

As ever the welcome and ambience at Rajdhani - Pheonix Market City, Chennai was quite warm. One cannot miss the welcome tilak and the sweet that is offered to all the guests. The spread on display especially for the bloggers to have a visual treat of all that they had to offer for that day was quite expanse and all the dishes were named and some of them definitely made us drool. A special mention is to be given for the table cloth used. A red Bandhini printed one which reminds us of the Rajasthani and Gujarathi dresses. I definitely had a doubt whether I will be able to remember all the names. But when it was served we were introduced to each and every dish by their names before serving.

The serving plate for this winter festival is quite different from the regular ones and the cups are arranged very neatly. The service as usual started with a warm water hand wash which was need of the hour. The welcome drink, Kesar Badam Tandai was different and tasted good. Mildly sweetened it was definitely new to people of south. The Khandvi had a different twist with Omam in it and the starters - Till Veg roll and Badami cutlet were very tasty. (Given a chance I would have completed my whole meal with just the Veg Rolls alone).

We were also served with Dal Bhatti Churma which is one of their regulars after the starters along with channa masala. The Poori was served with Surti Undhiyu as side dish and the Rotis and Teplas were served with Ker Sangri Kofta, Sarson ka Saag (typical winter dish), Haldi nu Shaak and Lilva Dana Sabji. All the dishes were mildly spiced. The side dishes were definitely new to people of Chennai.

We were served with Mango Lassi (surprisingly the Lassi was very less sweet, rather no sugar was added and the natural taste of mango with curd can be easily identified by the taste buds) and Chaas - which of course is one of the highlights of Rajdhani. The Masala Kichadi topped with ghee, kadi that is to be had with the kichadi all tasted good.

There was an array of sweets served as desserts, Jelabi with Rabadi, Mewa Kachori, Badam Laddu, Kajur ka laddu, Moti laddu, Gajar ka halwa, all tasted very good. And so much of sweet at that hour of the night was quite surprising. Still I managed to taste all of them by having a small portion served.

Overall different and unique experiences of Winter Food for a Southie like me.
