The Aadhi Sakthi - Ambal the supreme creator of the world is set to have set her divine feet in this world to bless all her devotees. On this occassion people worship her to get her blessings. This day is also the day of birth of Andal who is said to be the incarnation of Bhoomi Devi.
Kothai was found by Perialwar one of the 12 Alwars in a Tulasi vanam and hence she was named as Kothai who won the heart of lord Rangamannar and thus named Andal.
This is one of the major festivals in Vishnu temples and all temples of Ambal. Aadi Pooram is celebrated on the day when Pooram Nakshatram falls in the month of Aadi or Aashada.
On this day, in the Srivilliputhur, Lalitha Sahasranamam and Thiruppavai are chanted. In all other Ambal temples, the goddess is decorated with bangles which is then distributed to all the woman devotees.
