Review of the movie Maara

If you have not seen the movie Charlie - Malayalam - 2015 then you will find a brand new genere for Tamil movie. A fairy tale movie.

Young Paru have heard of a story and when she sees the entire story painted all over the walls of a fishing hamlet in Kerala where she goes to work, (restorer of older monuments) she gets so excited and tries to learn more about the artist. In the event of her search for the artist the story unfolds beautifully by weaving a story around each and every charecter that is being introduced all along. With the heroine Paru travels the YouTuber stand up comedian Alexanber Babu, who plays the role of a thief.

I personally have not seen Charlie, so not so sure of the story plot. Even though many insisted me to watch Charlie first then watch Maara, I declined. I wanted to watch Maara first and fresh. The life of the four principle charecters of the movie, Maara, Paaru, Velliaya and Mary are connected by the tale of a soldier, a fish and a conch. Both the hero - Madhavan who plays Maara, who is weighed down by a big regret of not bringing back the love of his beloved mentor Vellaiya. And Paaru who have heard the same story from her Mary aunty was able to connect the dots easily when she sees the old picture of Meenakshi (Mary aunty of Paru). Paru plays the cupid and brings the couple together.

The first part of the movie keeps on screaming one name Maara Maara and Maara and that makes the heroine makes her go in search of him and thus both the audience and heroine learns a lot more about Maara the title giver. Paru gets more attracted towards Maara as she wanted to know is the soldier of the story of her Mary aunty.

We have got a new good artist in Shradha Srinath, her eyes and even her face speaks in different occassions and it talks more than her words could. Madhan though is not the chocolate boy still retains the charm and as ever his acting attracts all age groups to the core. Mouli the ever green actor shows all sorts of emotions, be it the fatherly affection on all the inmates of his estate, or be it showing the picture of his teenage love to Paaru or showing the love that he had stored till date for his beloved Meenakshi.

The entire story is a beautiful poetry and the cinematographer have captured the beauty of the story very beautifully. The entire movie makes you travel and unravel your imagination all through. Many might say that the movie is long. But all the story's you read in a book are long and when you imagine it with your own visualization, you will never feel the length.

Maara is showcased in Amazon Prime a OTT platform.
