Upma - The soul food. when you are very hungry

In many house holds people especially men and kids dread the word upma, because if not done properly in the proper consistency it becomes gooey like  a gum and the taste becomes worse. But you know what, it becomes the soul food when you are very hungry because it is one of the easiest dishes that can be made - but again should be made with in the right consistency especially the Rava Upma or the Rawa Upma. 

This Upma if it is made in the right way with right consistency with Channa dal, Urad dal, cashew nuts and curry leaves here and there it is very divine. Many people grab it with lots of love when there is nothing to eat even though they dont like it. 

I am reminded of the scene from the movie Azhagan, where Mamooty is asked to head the dance show and speak about the dance program when the actual chief guest could not come and do the honors as the flight got delayed. Mamooty a 5 star hotel owner will preside the function and gives his speech but before getting into the actual speech about the program, he jokingly introduces himself as the Upma - the filler or the soul food. He says - when we have lot of people coming to our restaurant and when he have no food left for the late comers we dont generally disappoint them by saying we dont have food but instead we make Upma to fill up their hungry tummy. Here too it is like the same.

Thus is the fame of Upma and I call the podcast episode as Upma Mahathmiyam
